Geomicrobiology and its significance for biosphere processes

A two-day meeting, aimed at supporting a UK-Geomicrobiology network will be held at the Manchester Interdisciplinary Biocentre at the University of Manchester. It is supported by the Environmental Mineralogy Group, the Mineralogical Society, the Society for General Microbiology, the Environment Network of the Geological Society and the British Mycological Society. An exciting programme has been assembled covering many aspects of geomicrobiology including astrobiology, the deep biosphere, biomineralisation, bioremediation, bionanotechnology, bioleaching, microbial fuel cells, bioweathering, environmental genomics and structural biology. Offered oral and poster contributions are also invited. Registration (including a conference dinner on the 19th April) is £75 (£50 for students).

Registration/coffee will begin at 10.00 am (first talk at 11.00 am) on Thursday 19th, and the meeting will conclude at about 5.30 pm on the Friday afternoon (20th).

Abstract instructions. The final date for submission of abstracts is 3rd April 2012.

Venue and Accommodation

The meeting will be held in the Lecture Theatre of the Manchester Interdisciplinary Centre, MIB (building 16, page 1 of the campus map). The centre has state of the art lecturing facilities, and the Lecture Theatre can accommodate up to 158 seated delegates. As you will see from the map, the MIB is a short distance from both the Oxford Road and Piccadilly train stations.

The poster session will be held in the Exhibition Space also at the MIB, and food and refreshments will be served on site.

Delegates are responsible for their own accommodation. The organizers recommend the *** Days Hotel at the Manchester Conference Centre (http://www.dayshotelmanchester.co.uk/?gclid=CL-s-tj9960CFcpB4QodgBFSug) and the Ibis Hotel Charles St-Princess Street (http://www.ibishotel.com/gb/hotel-3143-ibis-manchester-charles-street/index.shtml) both within easy walking distance of the MIB. There are many other hotel options nearby that can cater for all tastes and budgets.
