Cambridge is a beautiful place to visit in June and, as well as a full scientific programme, there will be five events in the social programme:
1. Ice breaker party, 5-6.30 pm, Monday 25th June
All registered participants are invited to the ice breaker party in the marquee outside the main auditorium in Fitzwilliam College.
2. Reception, Sedgwick Museum, 6.15-7.45 pm, Tuesday 26th June
All registered participants are invited to the reception at the Sedgwick Museum, Downing Site, off Downing Street. Drinks will be served on the lawn outside the Dept. of Archaeology and Anthropology (or in the Watson Gallery below the Sedgwick Museum, if wet). Participants are welcome to wander through the Sedgwick Museum, where music will be provided by the Montague Quartet. NOTE: FIRE REGULATIONS RESTRICT THE MAXIMUM NUMBER OF PEOPLE IN THE MUSEUM TO 270 AT ANY ONE TIME. PLEASE BEAR THIS IN MIND WHEN WANDERING THROUGH, SO THAT EVERYONE HAS A CHANCE TO VISIT THE MUSEUM.
3. Conference dinner and awards ceremony, 6.30-9.30 pm, Wednesday 27th June, in the Fellows’ Garden of Magdalene College.
Participants who have purchased tickets should make their way to Magdalene College, which is located at the bottom of Castle Hill (~10 minute walk from Fitzwilliam College).
During the evening, society awards will be presented to Roger Powell (Mineralogical Society- Schlumberger Award), Michele Warren (Max Hey Medal, MinSoc), Frank Spear (Dana Medal, MSA), Sarah-Jane Barnes (Past Presidents' Medal, MAC) and François Farges (Hawley Medal, MAC).
Participants will be asked to show their invitations to gain admittance to the dinner.
4. Cello recital by Kim Cook (Pennsylvania State University), 1-2 pm, Thursday 28th June, Fitzwilliam College Chapel.
Kim Cook will perform a programme of Bach and Cassado. Entry is free, on a first-come-first-served basis (limited to 100).
5. Punting, 6-7 pm, Thursday 28th June
Participants who have purchased tickets for punting should make their way to the Scudamore’s punting station next to Magdalene Bridge by 6 pm. They will be given a 45 minute guided punting tour up the River Cam, along the backs of the colleges. The tickets issued at registration should be brought along.
Registered Accompanying Persons are welcome to attend all these events but they must have pre-booked the banquet and punting events (there is a nominal registration fee of £15.00 for accompanying persons, to cover overheads).
